In this unique book noted French bonsai artist, Francois Jecker, describes the aesthetic principles incorporated and embodied by high quality bonsai. Referencing the influence of Japanese culture, the author uses well rendered illustrations and thoughtful text to explain a complex topic in readily understandable terms. In addition, he utilizes photographs and analysis of bonsai created by 14 other well known artists (including US notables, Nick Lenz, John Naka & Chase Rosade).
I believe this book provides valuable information and insight for both novice and experienced bonsai practitioners, and highly recommend it to my students.

Lovely photos. Sets forth an abstract method for understanding a tree's composition, and then provides extensive advice within that framework for structuring a tree to optimize its points of interest, activity and aesthetic flow in many compositional styles.
