Good root-on-rock bonsai are few and far between. And in this case the rough rock and rugged tree are a perfect match. 

Dwarf Procumbens junipers are tough and adaptable to various environments. I've seen them growing in pots in south Florida, and spreading magnificently in landscapes here in northern Vermont.

Even though they grow in the hot south as well as the cold north, Procumbens Junipers are not indoor trees, so you need to keep yours outside as much as possible spring summer and fall. In cold climates it will require protection in the winter. For more on juniper care you can research online or ask an old hand at your local bonsai club.
