Akadama Shohin Bonsai Soil - Hard, Very Small Grain - 1 quart
Akadama is mined from volcanic soil in Japan, where it has long been a favorite of Japanese bonsai growers It is commonly used for conifers (pines, junipers etc) but can be used for other type trees.
Some people use Akadama straight while others use it as part of their soil mix. One of our favorite mixes is our Professional Mix, with Akadama, lava and pumice. We suggest hard fired Akadama for all but dessert climates.
We call this smallest grain Shohin size. You can use it for small (shohin) trees, but something many people don't know is some growers also use it for larger old specimen bonsai
1 quart bag very small grain (1-2 mm) hard fired Akadama soil
NOTE: This soil is much finer than shown in the photo. 1-2mm is more like fine sand
