Akadama Shohin Bonsai Soil - Hard, Very Small Grain - 1 quart
Akadama is mined from volcanic soil in Japan, where it has long been a favorite of Japanese bonsai growers It is commonly used for conifers (pines, junipers etc) but can be used for other type trees.
Some people use Akadama straight while others use it as part of their soil mix. One of our favorite mixes is Akadama, lava and pumice. We suggest hard fired Akadama for all but dessert climates
We call this smallest grain Shohin size. You can use it for small (shohin) trees, but something many people don't know is some growers also use it for larger old specimen bonsai
