Dwarf Procumbens Juniper - D294

This upright, literati style is unusual for a procumbens juniper, a variety that usually grows prostrate, hugging the ground as it spreads. In order to maintain the literati (aka bunjin) feeling, you would have to thin the crown some, as rich full crowns are not a literati characteristic. 

Procumbens junipers are known for hardiness in general, which includes resistance to cold, at least down to a point. In cold climates they need to stay outside as much as possible spring summer and fall, with some protection in the winter. How much protection depends on how cold and other factors. In mild climates you might keep yours outdoors all year as long as you can provide good protection for the wind.
